Edlington Salutes Ron Flowers MBE
On Friday 4 October 2024, the Town Council, Civic Mayor of Doncaster, Representatives from the FA, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Doncaster Rovers FC, members of the Flowers Family, Edlington White Stars, and students from Hill Top Academy and Sir Thomas Wharton's Academy all gathered in the Martinwells Centre for the unveiling of a plaque to honour the achievements of Edlington born Ron Flowers MBE.
Ron was a professional footballer who played at the highest level in the 1950's and 1960's for Wolverhampton Wanderers. His career included captaining England and being one of only 22 Englishmen to ever receive a World Cup Winners Medal for being a member of the iconic 1966 World Cup Squad.
